Osteopathy in the Cranial Field
Just as the lungs breathe and the heart beats, the central nervous system has its own involuntary rhythmic motion. There is also movement of the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) around the brain and within the surrounding tissues. Because of the “blood brain barrier," these cells require circulation of the CSF to receive nourishment and oxygen.
Osteopathic doctors, with training in this area (the "Cranial Field”), work with the skull as well as the rest of the body. We work with the fascial coverings (meninges), the fluids, the organs, and especially the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to improve health.
Sometimes called Cranial Osteopathy, this field of study is an additional set of skills gained by osteopathic doctors to support health and healing better.
